To Be With An Artist

Sometimes, to be with an artist is an enjoyable thing.

In the afternoon of Nov. 21st, I was accompanying Jia Aili (an young Chinese artist who is working on a project now ongoing at doART Beijing http://www.20081114.net/ ) to Arario Beijing for the installation of his works in the group show "The Game Is Not Over" which will be open the next afternoon. On our drive there, he played a beautiful music, especially in that sunny afternoon.

We drove west toward the sunset around the east fifth ring road of beijing city. The sunshine is harsh, yet comfortable on touch. Trees aside pass by swiftly and cast their elegant shadows on the road.

It is a road not far form the gallery and the art district, anyhow, I've never been to this part of Beijing before.

The tune is brisk, and the rhythm beats fast. It makes me feel that we are driving for a journey far far away, to escape something in a hurry. Our hearts should beat faster at this risky moment, yet the joy and excitement that we are gonna leave here for a new wonderful world take over every sense of fear in our heart. We have not reached the destination yet, but the courage that leads us for such a risk has already drove us crazy and delighted.

It doesn't matter where we are gonna go, but the moment that we are on the way.

It is such a fantastic feeling, dreamlike but true.

I asked him what is the music about. It suits just well to the afternoon, to the sunset, the trees and everything.

The answer is "Cafe del Mar", the label from the relaxing terrace in Ibiza (San Antonio) specializing in Ambient music. http://www.cafedelmarmusic.com/
